Aaronson Addresses Business Identity Theft at Tax Section Meeting

Dallas tax attorney Maxine Aaronson joins National Taxpayer Advocate Nina Olson at the ABA Tax Section’s May 2013 meeting for a practical discussion about the growing problem of theft of Employer ID numbers and the tax identity fraud that can result. Cleaning up these problems is a growing area of tax practice at both the state and federal levels. Victims include not only individuals but also employers, who can be left footing the tax bill for fraudulent W-2’s. This practical session will address the problems faced by individuals and companies who are victims of these scams and provide tools for resolution. The panelists will also address strategies currently available to individuals and employers to reduce risk and discuss regulatory and legislative proposals designed to combat this problem.  Claudia Hill, EA and Debera Salam of Ernst & Young LLP will also join Ms. Aaronson and Ms. Olson on the panel.
